Fabulously Frugal Purchases!
During the months of August and September it might feel like every dollar in your wallet is destined for school supplies and/or air conditioning. Fear not! There are also fabulously popular items that hit their lowest prices this time of year, and they’re yours for the picking if you know where to look! Read on for some of the best buys and where to find them.
Deck, Patio and Pool Furniture – If someone you know is in the market for beautiful new outdoor furniture to use next year, you’re going to find that late August is an ideal time to shop. Get into those department store showrooms and home stores and don’t be afraid to haggle like crazy.
Office Furniture – For whatever reason, office furniture (which also doubles beautifully as dorm furniture, by the way) enjoys fabulous discounts around this time of year. If you’re in the market for home or office pieces, now is the time to go shopping for great discounts. If you’re game, it’s also a great time to wait around for a few weeks for those furniture buyers to install the new and donate the older stuff to great local secondhand stores – it wouldn’t surprise me a bit to see a huge inventory of lightly-used office furniture soon in your nearby Goodwill. Keep an eye out!
Summer clothes – If you’re anything like me, this summer truly did fly by. Chances are excellent the next few seasons will as well, and another glorious summer will be upon us before we know it. Chances are even better that you (and any rapidly growing children in the house) will need summer clothing again. Every clothing store out there is doing its best to clear space and make way for autumn fashions. Have a look at what they have to offer – chances are fabulous you’ll be able to take care of next year’s summer clothing needs for anywhere from 50-75% off.
Outdoor Grills and Wading Pools – In a nutshell, they keep the husbands and the kids incredibly happy all summer long, and are therefore an excellent investment. Nothing fancy required, standard grills are outstanding, and plastic pool makers are creating rugged, huge, easy (fill with the garden hose) models that my kids have hours of fun in. The next time you’re in your local home centers, have a peek to see how drastic the discounts are on these summer staples. Trust me when I tell you, they keep beautifully in the corner of your shed or basement, all winter long.
Hotel Rooms – Count on August for great rates on hotels nationwide! Family vacations tend to wind down in August, and business travel dwindles as well. It’s no wonder that this is the month in which hotels tend to slash their prices to entice some late summer travelers thru their doors. If you’re game for a road trip in the next couple of weeks, don’t be surprised to find your favorite locations offering anywhere from 15-50% discounts for stays. Enjoy!
